The 2012 World Hockey Championships in Finland/Sweden began Friday with five Maple Leafs set to represent their countries.
The players we will keep an eye on for you are Dion Phaneuf (Canada), Luke Schenn (Canada), Joey Crabb (USA), Mikhail Grabovski (Belarus) and Nikolai Kulemin (Russia).
Two players (Phaneuf and Grabovski) will be alternate captains for their countries.

Thursday saw the start of the respective OHL and WHL finals as two Leafs prospects look to punch their ticket to the Memorial Cup later this month in Shawinigan, Quebec.
In the Ontario Hockey League, Greg McKegg and the London Knights fell in double overtime to the Niagara Ice Dogs 3-2. The Kights and Ice Dogs are right back in action tonight with Game 2 in Niagara.
McKegg missed the previous series against Kitchener with an upper body injury but he returned Thursday and recorded an assist in the loss.
As for Brad Ross and the Portland Winterhawks, they also dropped Game 1 by the same 3-2 score to the Edmonton Oil Kings. Ross was a minus 1 along with six penalty minutes.
The two teams are back at it in Edmonton Friday before the series shifts to Portland for Games 3 and 4 on Sunday and Tuesday.
