Ulmerstandings: Slow Start For Some Former Leafs

Let me put it to you this way: if you used to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs you’re probably having a lousy season.

While the Leafs are enjoying a 10-6-2 campaign, things aren’t so great for the alumni.

The three teams employing the most former Leafs -Anaheim, Calgary and Carolina at three each – are a combined 19-23-7. They are numbers 25, 26 and 28 in the league.

Put poor Tomas Kaberle at the bottom of the heap. In 15 games with Carolina, Kaberle has just three assists and sits at -5.

Matt Stajan, the sole Calgary survivor of the trade that brought Dion Phaneuf and Keith Aulie to Toronto is still goalless in 10 games.

The ex-Leaf having the most fun may be Ian White. White has two goals, six points and sits at plus five but playing with Nik Lidstrom will do that for you. Tuuka Rask is 1-3 with the Bruins but his 2.53 goals against average and .910 save percentage are amenable enough.

In Ulmerstandings IV, we take a look at the varying levels of success, or lack of it, former Leafs are enjoying with their current teams.

It’s no surprise that the Leafs goals against has ballooned since the injury to James Reimer but the team’s offence has dipped as well. In Ulmerstandings V, I looked at the team’s offensive and defensive performances before and after the injury to Reimer through goals for, goals against, goals for per game and goals against per game.

Before Reimer Injury

After Reimer Injury
