Maple Leafs prospect Dominic Toninato will continue to take part in the USA Junior Evaluation camp this week as he will be one of 31 players taking part in three exhibition games starting on Wednesday.
Toninato was the Leafs 5th round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The 6’1 forward from Duluth, Minnesota will be entering his freshman season at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He played last season in the USHL with Fargo and recorded 70 points (29 goals, 41 assists) in 64 games. He was selected to the 2012-13 All-USHL second team.
While Toninato is the lone Leafs prospect playing for Team USA this week, the Leafs will have three players representing Canada, defenceman Matt Finn and forward Frederik Gauthier and Ryan Rupert. Morgan Rielly took part in the first two days of camp but will not play as he is one of the returning players from Canada’s 2013 World Junior team.
All three Leafs prospects playing for Team Canada will see action Wednesday against Finland.
Gauthier centres Hunter Shinkaruk and Anthony Mantha while Ryan Rupert is on a line with Felix Girard and Mark Jankowski.
On the blueline, Matt Finn will be paired with Ryan Pulock.
