Maple Leafs prospect Brad Ross and the Portland Winterhawks swept the Tri-City Americans in the WHL West Final. The Winterhawks defeated the Americans 4-1 Thursday to move on to the WHL Final. It is the second consecutive season that Portland has won the WHL West title.
Their opponent for the WHL fianl has yet to be determined as the Edmonton Oil Kings lead the WHL East Final 3-1 over the Mosse Jaw Warriors.
In the clinching victory, Ross had another two point game (one goal, one assist) it was the third straight game that he has achieved that feat. He has recorded 20 points in 15 playoff games which puts him fourth in WHL playoff scoring.
In the OHL, prospect Greg McKegg remains day-to-day with an upper body injury that cost him the entire series against the Kitchener Rangers. McKegg was injured in a collision with Saginaw’s Vincent Trocheck in Game 6 of the second-round.
“He’s getting close,” London GM and head coach Mark Hunter told the London Free Press. “He’s back skating with us in practice now.”
Once McKegg is healthy, he will return to the lineup for London who open the OHL final next Thursday against either Niagara or Ottawa.
