Prospects Advancing In Playoffs

Four of the Maple Leafs prospects in the OHL have advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

Stuart Percy and the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors are facing elimination against Barrie tonight while goaltender Garret Sparks and the Guelph Storm were eliminated by the Plymouth Whalers in six games.

Here is a quick round up of how the Leafs prospects in the OHL have done to this point.

Greg McKegg and the London Knights swept the Windsor Spitfires. McKegg recorded four points in four games. The Knights will now face the Saginaw Spirit in the Western Conference’s second round.

After losing the first two games, the Plymouth Whalers stormed back to win the next four from Guelph. Jamie Devane had three points in the six game series.  Goaltending prospect Garret Sparks played very well in the first two games but he couldn’t hold down the fort as he finished the series with a 4.45 GAA and a .807 SV%. The Whalers will go up against Kitchener in the next round.

The final Leafs prospect in the Western Conference is Andrew Crescenzi of the Kitchener Rangers. The towering forward was exceptional in the series racking up eight points in five games. He sits in ninth in playoff scoring.

Recently signed Sam Carrick and the Brampton Battalion swept the Sudbury Wolves and now await their second round opponent. Carrick had six points in the four games. The Wolves had high expectations for Josh Leivo in the series but he had three points in the series and a minus five rating.

Over in the WHL, Brad Ross and the Portland Winterhawks have advanced to the second round to play the Kamloops Blazers. Josh Nicholls and the Saskatoon Blades were swept the Medicine Hat Tigers. Nicholls had three points in the four-game series. Ross had a quiet series recording just one goal in the four game series.
