It appears that the Maple Leafs will have three forward prospects taking part in the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championships in Malmo, Sweden this year. Final rosters do not have to be submitted until December 25th, one day before the tournament begins.

All three players were picked at the 2013 NHL Draft. First round draft pick Frederik Gauthier (Canada), fifth round pick Fabrice Herzog (Switzerland) and seventh round selection Andreas Johnson (Sweden) look like they will be representing the Blue and White for their respective countries.

Gauthier plays for Rimouski in the QMJHL where he has 24 points in 29 games this season. Herzog also plays in the Q, for the Quebec Remparts where he has recorded 20 goals and 29 points in 34 games. Johnson plays for Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League. In 34 games he has 22 points.

Canada begins the tournament on Boxing Day against Germany while Johnson and Herzog will go head-to-head as Switzerland faces Sweden on the same day. All of Canada’s games will air on TSN.
