The Marlies continued to prepare for Thursday’s Game 3 with practice at Ricoh Coliseum on Wednesday. It appears that the team is starting to get healthier as both Carter Ashton and Andrew MacWilliam are expected to return to the line up on Thursday.
Marlies head coach Steve Spott also said that Spencer Abbott and Peter Holland are closing in on a return to action and are both considered game-time decisions for Game 3 Thursday night at Ricoh Coliseum (7pm Rogers TV). Get tickets.
The Toronto Marlies practiced Tuesday at Ricoh Coliseum as they get set to host Milwaukee Thursday in Game 3 of the Calder Cup playoffs. With one more win, the Marlies would sweep a first round series for the third straight season.
The CHL’s top scorer, Connor Brown has joined the Marlies for the playoff run after his season with the Erie Otters came to an end over the weekend. Brown led the Canadian Hockey Leauge in scoring with 128 points in 68 games.

Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer was practicing at MasterCard Centre on Monday as he is set to play for Canada at the upcoming World Hockey Championship in Minsk, Belarus.
Reimer will be one of three Leafs on Canada’s roster joining Morgan Rielly and Nazem Kadri at the event which begins May 9th. This is the second time Reimer will play in the Worlds for Canada.

The Toronto Marlies begin the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs with a best-of-five series against the Milwaukee Admirals, AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators on Friday.
The Marlies were defeated both times by the Admirals this season losing 3-2 and 5-1.
Rookie forward Miikka Salomaki led Milwaukee in scoring with 50 points while the team had five players with at least 40 points.
Goalie Marek Mazanec started 31 games in net for the Admirals in 2013-14 and posted a 18-10-3 record with a .914 save percentage and 2.44 GAA.

Fifty years ago on April 23, 1964 the Leafs forced a game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals with the Red Wings in dramatic fashion. Proving that hockey players are some of the toughest athletes out there, Bob Baun was the saviour with an overtime goal after returning to the ice following an exit in the third due to a blocked Gordie Howe slapshot to the ankle. Later to find out it was broken.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Andreas Johnson was named the Swedish Hockey League Rookie of the Year after recording 24 points (15 goals) in 44 games for Frolunda. He ended the season fifth in team scoring.
The other nominees were two teammates Alexander Wennberg and fellow Leafs prospect Tom Nilsson and also Kevin Fiala from HV71.
Johnson was selected by the Leafs in the seventh round, 202nd overall during the 2013 NHL Draft. During the recent World Junior Championship, Johnson had six points (three goals, three assists) in seven games.
