Leafs End Tourney With Win

The Maple Leafs 2014 rookie tournament came to a close with a 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday afternoon.

Brett Findlay and Parker Bowles scored for Toronto while Antoine Bibeau made 25 saves for the shutout. With the victory, the Leafs ended the tournament with a 2-1 record.

Bibeau made an unreal save early in the first period. You will be seeing it for a while.

Check it out below.

A Not So Manic Monday

The annual rookie tournament in London will conclude for the Maple Leafs Tuesday with a game against Pittsburgh’s prospects.

The Leafs intend on bouncing back following a 6-2 loss to Ottawa Sunday night.

Toronto will play without centre Frederik Gauthier who tweaked his back in the loss to Ottawa.

Gauthier considers the injury a minor setback and hopes to be ready for the big league camp which opens Thursday at Mastercard Centre.

Assistant GM Kyle Dubas also confirmed that William Nylander will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday’s tilt.

Dubas feels there’s little reason to […]

Baby Battle Of Ontario

The Leafs and Senators meet tonight in London in the second game for both teams at this rookie tournament.
The Leafs edged Chicago last night 4-2 while Ottawa dropped its opener against Pittsburgh 4-3.

Christopher Gibson will get the start for the Leafs tonight. Gibson and Garret Sparks are expected to battle for the Marlies top goaltending job when camp begins next week.

Head coach Gord Dineen said William Nylander, David Broll and Josh Leivo would be healthy scratches this evening.

Eric Knodel will sit as well following an impressive outing last night against […]

Leafs Rookies Start Off With A Bang

The Maple Leafs rookies started off the three-game tournament with a 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. Four different goal scorers (Ryan Rupert, Matt Finn, Josh Leivo and David Broll) and Garret Sparks (32 saves) led the way in the win.

2014 first round pick William Nylander had an assist on Broll’s third period goal and was dangerous all game long.

The Leafs rookies are back in action on Sunday when they face Ottawa (7pm Rogers TV, Rogers Digital 368/369HD). You can also watch a repeat of the game on […]

Leafs vs. Blackhawks Rookie Preview

The Maple Leafs kick off their rookie tournament in London tonight against Chicago at 7 P.M (Rogers TV and Rogers Digital Cable 368/369).

Tonight’s lines:

Garret Sparks starts in net.

The Leafs will alternate A’s from game to to game. With seven NHL games under his belt and 23 goals with the Marlies last season, I’d expect Josh Leivo to wear a letter tonight.

Sparks grew up in suburban Chicago and will face longtime friend and teammate in Alex Broadhurst. Both played together growing up in the Chicago minor system and against each other […]

Swedish Legacy In Blue And White

Borje Salming’s arrival in North America four decades ago marked the beginning of Sweden’s imprint on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In recent years that legacy of Swedish talent continues on the blueline with the Leafs.

Scout Thommie Bergman’s influence has seen Toronto draft Carl Gunnarsson, Anton Stralman, Petter Granberg, and Viktor Loov .
And as Granberg closes in on an opportunity to make the big club you can add Tom Nilsson to that list as well.

Nilsson was taken in the 4th round in 2011 and comes to North America at age 21 having […]

The baby Leafs will play Chicago in Game 1 Saturday night at 7 p.m (Rogers TV and Rogers Digital Cable (Channel 368 SD and 369 HD).
