The Prodigal Frattin

frattin600sept18

It’s not often that players get a second opportunity with the same club. In Toronto, Wendel Clark and Yannick Perrault were exceptions playing for the Leafs not only twice but on three separate occasions!!

Matt Frattin will get yet another opportunity when the Leafs acquired their former draft pick from Columbus for Jerry D’Amigo in July.
Frattin is back in Toronto following a year that saw him start last season in Los Angeles and end as a Blue Jacket. It was a season lost, one that saw him score just two goals ...

A Not So Manic Monday

gauthier644sept15

The annual rookie tournament in London will conclude for the Maple Leafs Tuesday with a game against Pittsburgh’s prospects.

The Leafs intend on bouncing back following a 6-2 loss to Ottawa Sunday night.

Toronto will play without centre Frederik Gauthier who tweaked his back in the loss to Ottawa.

Gauthier considers the injury a minor setback and hopes to be ready for the big league camp which opens Thursday at Mastercard Centre.

Assistant GM Kyle Dubas also confirmed that William Nylander will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday’s tilt.

Dubas feels there’s little reason to ...

leivorookiecamp620aug28

The Maple Leafs rookies started off the three-game tournament with a 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. Four different goal scorers (Ryan Rupert, Matt Finn, Josh Leivo and David Broll) and Garret Sparks (32 saves) led the way in the win.

2014 first round pick William Nylander had an assist on Broll’s third period goal and was dangerous all game long.

The Leafs rookies are back in action on Sunday when they face Ottawa (7pm Rogers TV, Rogers Digital 368/369HD). You can also watch a repeat of the game on ...

Leafs vs. Blackhawks Rookie Preview

socialsept13

The Maple Leafs kick off their rookie tournament in London tonight against Chicago at 7 P.M (Rogers TV and Rogers Digital Cable 368/369).

Tonight’s lines:
Broll-Verhaeghe-Nylander
Watling-Gauthier-Leivo
M.Rupert-R.Rupert-Biggs
Bowles-Findlay-Philip

Loov-Nilsson
Knodel-Donaghey
Finn-Fraser

Garret Sparks starts in net.

The Leafs will alternate A’s from game to to game. With seven NHL games under his belt and 23 goals with the Marlies last season, I’d expect Josh Leivo to wear a letter tonight.

Sparks grew up in suburban Chicago and will face longtime friend and teammate in Alex Broadhurst. Both played together growing up in the Chicago minor system and against each other ...

Swedish Legacy In Blue And White

nilsson600sept13

Borje Salming’s arrival in North America four decades ago marked the beginning of Sweden’s imprint on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In recent years that legacy of Swedish talent continues on the blueline with the Leafs.

Scout Thommie Bergman’s influence has seen Toronto draft Carl Gunnarsson, Anton Stralman, Petter Granberg, and Viktor Loov .
And as Granberg closes in on an opportunity to make the big club you can add Tom Nilsson to that list as well.

Nilsson was taken in the 4th round in 2011 and comes to North America at age 21 having ...
