Finn, Gauthier Score For Canada

Maple  Leafs prospects Matt Finn and Frederik Gauthier scored for Canada in their 7-3 win over Sweden in a World Junior exhibition game taking place in Lake Placid, New York.

It was the second straight game with a goal for Gauthier who blocked a shot late in the second period and left for the dressing room. He returned for the third where his goal early in the frame restored Canada’s two-goal lead.

World Junior coach Brent Sutter was asked about Gauthier being able to return after blocking the shot.

Serving Up Blizzards At DQ

David Clarkson took part in Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day on Thursday as he served Blizzard Treats at a store in Toronto.

The 11th annual Miracle Treat Day is happening at locations across Canada. During the one-day fundraiser, 100 per cent of the proceeds from every Blizzard Treat sold will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network.

The below vid is a wrap up of Clarkson’s day at Dairy Queen.

This was the first time he was behind the counter at Dairy Queen but it was all worth it.

Gauthier Scores For Canada

Three Maple Leafs prospects were in the lineup as Canada defeated Finland 5-3 in the first game of a World Junior exhibition series that is taking place in Lake Placid, NY over the next four days.

2013 first round draft pick Frederik Gauthier scored in the first period to give Canada a 2-1 lead after they fell behind just 51 seconds into the game.

London Knights forward Ryan Rupert recorded an assist on Canada’s fourth goal of the game in the third period while fellow 2012 draft pick Matt Finn was held scoreless.

Meet Clarkson Thursday At Dairy Queen

New Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson will serve Blizzard Treats Thursday, August 8th as part of Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen (351 Bremner Blvd) from 1-2pm.

For every Blizzard treat purchased, Dairy Queen will donate $1 or more to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Toninato To Take Part In USA Evaluation Camp

Maple Leafs prospect Dominic Toninato will continue to take part in the USA Junior Evaluation camp this week as he will be one of 31 players taking part in three exhibition games starting on Wednesday.

Toninato was the Leafs 5th round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The 6’1 forward from Duluth, Minnesota will be entering his freshman season at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Bolland’s Day With Stanley

2013 Stanley Cup winner Dave Bolland had his day with the Stanley Cup on Thursday. The Leafs forward started off his day in London, Ontario before bringing it to his hometown of Mimico where a parade with the Cup was held in his honour.

Bolland spoke with the media about what it would mean to win the Cup with the Blue and White.

Leafs Sign Abbott To One-Year Deal

The Maple Leafs announced the signing of forward Spencer Abbott to a one-year contract.

The 25-year-old Hamilton, Ontario native recorded 33 points (13 goals, 20 assists)  in 55 games with the Toronto Marlies last season. Abbott also added five points in five playoff games. He signed with the Leafs following a four-year career at the University of Maine.

Abbott was a Hobey Baker finalist following his senior season at Maine where he had 62 poits in 39 games.

Kessel & Clarkson Take Part In Charity Ping-Pong Event

Maple Leafs sniper Phil Kessel and the newly signed David Clarkson took part in Smashfest Thursday evening in downtown Toronto.  The ping-pong event put on by former Leaf Dominic Moore, raised money for concussion research and the Katie Moore Foundation for rare cancers.

Leafs TV was there as Kessel spoke with the media prior to the event.

Kessel is known as a pretty good table tennis player and the team has a table where they play before or after practice. Below is a bit of Kessel in action.
