Trade Fuels Competition

In the 165th day of his tenure, Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis moved boldly to address the key position on his hockey club.

In acquiring 24-year-old Jonathan Bernier, Nonis moved a player with 30-goal potential in Matt Frattin, backup Ben Scrivens and a second-round draft choice for the player he hopes will be the club’s number goalie for the next decade.

Nonis, of course, wouldn’t and shouldn’t say that.

Bernier is, he said, destined to be locked in a battle with 25-year-old incumbent James Reimer for the number one job.

Organizers hope the World Juniors in Toronto will help boost the game in multicultural Toronto.

The City of Nations is hosting the world in a tournament that features our national sport.

Clearly, the announcement that the Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens are hosting the 2015 and 2017 World Junior Hockey Championships carries a global message.

Details of the tournament were released Thursday at a press conference at Air Canada Centre.

Both cities will host a preliminary round every year. Toronto will host a medal round that spans December 2014 into January 2015. Montreal ...

Former Maple Leafs goalie Curtis Joseph will be at the Hero Burgers location in Milton this Saturday June 22nd.

The Maple Leafs Mobile Fan Zone, Carlton the Bear and the Leafs Blue Crew will be there starting at 11am with Joseph being there from Noon-1pm.

The Hero Burgers where you can meet CuJo this Saturday is at 850 Main Street East with the main intersection being Main and Thompson.

Leafs Sign MacIntyre To One-Year Deal

The Maple Leafs announced on Thursday that the team has signed goaltender Drew MacIntyre to a one year two-way contract.

MacIntyre, 29, has played in 21 games for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League this season posting a record of 13-5-3. The 6-1, 184-pound goaltender has compiled a 1.83 goals against average and a 0.931 save percentage. MacIntyre has previous NHL experience with the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres.

Gardiner Calls Fool Me Once In North America Cup

Maple Leafs defenceman Jake Gardiner was in Toronto on Tuesday as he took to the ice with skating consultant Barb Underhill before being the drawmaster for the 30th annual North America Cup at Mohawk Raceway.

Gardiner will be in town for a few days working with Underhill before returning to Minnesota where he will spend his offseason.
