This is a big weekend for the CHL playoffs as the final two spots for the Memorial Cup could be determined. Tonight, Leafs prospect Greg McKegg and the London Knights could eliminate the Niagara Ice Dogs in the OHL final. You can watch the game on Sportsnet beginning at 7pm.
In the WHL, the Edmonton Oil Kings defeated Brad Ross and the Portland Winterhawks in Game 5 4-3 Thursday to take a 3-2 series lead. The last three games in the series have all been determined by 4-3 scores. The series resumes Saturday in Portland with a Game 7 Sunday back in Edmonton if necessary.
Friday was a nervous day for Team USA at the World Hockey Championships. They struggled against Kazakhstan having to go to overtime before getting a late goal from Justin Faulk. Leafs forward Joey Crabb was held pointless in over 11 minutes of action.
It was a better day for Dion Phaneuf and Luke Schenn as Team Canada rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 deficit to defeat Finland 5-3. Canada sits on top of group H with 13 points. Phaneuf was pointless and +1 in over 20 minutes. Schenn saw just over 6 minutes in the win.
