Canada continued their winning ways at the World Hockey Championship on Thursday as they defeated Denmark 6-1. The win temporarily moved Canada back to first place in Group A pending Sweden’s result against France.
Nazem Kadri had two assists on the night along with four shots, +2 rating in 14:30 of ice-time. Kadri has recorded three assists in the first four games of the tournament as he plays on a line with Cody Hodgson and Troy Brouwer.
Rookie defenceman Morgan Rielly continues to be Canada’s seventh defenceman and playing on the powerplay. Rielly played just under seven minutes and picked up an assist on Canada’s fifth goal. James Reimer was the back up to former Leaf teammate Ben Scrivens who made 29 saves in the win.
Canada is back in action on Friday morning as they face Italy (9:45am TSN).
The day wasn’t so good for Jake Gardiner and Team USA as they were upset 6-5 by Latvia. Gardiner had one assist in 20:30 of action which placed him sixth on the team and third amongst defenceman. He has two points (one goal, one assist) while averaging 16:55 ice-time per game. The USA also plays on Friday at 9:45 am on TSN 2 when they take on Kazakhstan.
