The Maple Leafs had a new face at practice Wednesday as Nazem Kadri was recalled from the Toronto Marlies to take the place of injured forward Phiippe Dupuis who was placed on the injured reserve list.
Kadri practiced on a line with Tim Connolly andClarke MacArthur as the trio will lineup as a unit against the Buffalo Sabres at Air Canada Centre on Thursday. Kadri has already played three games with the Leafs this season and had one assist. In his 22 games with the Marlies, he has a team-high 22 points.
Speedy and gritty Darryl Boyce will also be in the lineup against the Sabres. Boyce was recalled from the Marlies on Tuesday once Colby Armstrong was placed on IR. Boyce had a very successful stint last season with the Leafs playing in 46 games and recording 13 points along with a plus eight rating. Boyce was one of the main reasons that the Marlies possess a top-ranked penalty-killing unit.
In his daily media address, Ron Wilson announced that James Reimer will get the start against Buffalo. Reimer made 40 saves in the loss to the Kings on Monday. He will make another start against the Sabres who scored five goals on him last Friday.
Matthew Lombardi is getting closer to being back in the lineup.
“He probably will be ready to return after the break for Christmas so Winnipeg, Florida, Carolina, one of those games,” Wilson said.
“He will definitely be playing on that trip. I don’t know which game he will be ready for. I will wait for our trainers and doctors to tell me but he has been given clearance to participate in all aspects of practice. Now it’s just getting your timing and conditioning and a little bit more strength in that region.”
