The 2013 World Junior Championships are set to begin on Boxing Day and on Thursday it was a chance for four of the teams to play in precompetition games in Finland.
With less than a week to go before the start of the tournament, it appears that the Leafs could have four prospects taking part in the tournament. Morgan Rielly (Canada), Tyler Biggs (USA), Garret Sparks (USA) and Tom Nilsson (Sweden).
Canada fell 3-2 to Finland with Rielly being held pointless in the game with an even rating in 17:34 of action. He saw plenty of time on the power play in what was a penalty filled contest. The Canadian team will have one more exhibition game Saturday against Sweden (9am, TSN).
Sparks got the start in net for USA and played 31:33 minutes allowing one goal as he turned aside 16 shots. He is expected to be the backup once the tournament starts.
Tyler Biggs was a minus one in 12:14 of action. The USA will have another exhibition game Saturday against Finland (6pm, TSN) before their final 23 man roster is submitted.
Tom Nilsson was the Leafs fourth round selection in the 2011 Draft. He was held off the scoresheet while playing 16:20. He will also have to wait to learn his fate as Sweden has yet to name their final roster.
