The Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday used a compliance buyout, as allowed by the NHL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, on defenceman Mike Komisarek’s contract which is valid until the end of the 2013-14 season.
Komisarek, 31, signed with the Leafs as a free agent in 2009 and played in 158 games over four seasons recording 19 points.
The Maple Leafs ended the 2013 NHL Draft making five selections as picked four forwards and one goaltender.
Frederik Gauthier was the Leafs first selection 21st overall. The 18-year-old native of Mascouche, Quebec was a member of Canada’s Gold Medal winning team at the 2013 IIHF World U18 Championships. He finished his first season with Rimouski in the QMJHL as a 20-goal scorer and a solid two-way player.
With the acquisition of Dave Bolland, the Leafs traded their second round pick which meant the Leafs next selection was in the third round ...
The Maple Leafs added depth at centre during Sunday’s draft when the team acquired Mimico, Ontario native Dave Bolland from the Chicago Blackhawks for three draft picks (No. 51 and 117 this year and a 4th Rd. pick in 2014).
Bolland scored the Stanley Cup winning goal for the Blackhawks and has won two cups with Chicago. He finished the season with 14 points in 35 games and had six points in 18 playoff games.

The Maple Leafs selected centre Frederik Gauthier with the 21st overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.
Gauthier played for Rimouski last season and is a two way forward who had 22 goals and 60 points in 62 games. He is also the middle sibling with two sisters.

“We have the list on lockdown,” Leafs Director of Amateur Scouting Dave Morrison said.
The team brought 26 players to the team hotel in Short Hills, New Jersey for interviews with Morrison, team pyschologist Dana Sinclair, strength and conditioning coach Anthony Belza and team doctor Dr. Noah Forman.
“The interview could be 40-45 minutes if they speak with myself, Dana, Anthony and Noah,” Morrison said.

The Maple Leafs announced on Thursday that the team has signed goaltender Drew MacIntyre to a one year two-way contract.
MacIntyre, 29, has played in 21 games for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League this season posting a record of 13-5-3. The 6-1, 184-pound goaltender has compiled a 1.83 goals against average and a 0.931 save percentage. MacIntyre has previous NHL experience with the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres.

Maple Leafs defenceman Jake Gardiner was in Toronto on Tuesday as he took to the ice with skating consultant Barb Underhill before being the drawmaster for the 30th annual North America Cup at Mohawk Raceway.
Gardiner will be in town for a few days working with Underhill before returning to Minnesota where he will spend his offseason.
