Preseason Edition In The Battle Of Ontario

The Maple Leafs continue preseason action tonight when they travel to Ottawa to face the Senators (7:30pm TSN, TSN1050 Radio). The two teams will meet in Toronto next Tuesday. They will face each other in the Leafs home opener October 5th.

Following tonight’s game, the Leafs will be in action Saturday and Sunday against the Buffalo Sabres. Here is the full preseason schedule

If you missed it, the Leafs assigned Jesse Blacker and Tyler Biggs to the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday. The Leafs currently have 34 players remaining in camp.

Lupul Takes Part In Practice

The Maple Leafs returned to the ice on Wednesday following a full off-day as they continued preparations for the season opener on October 1st against the Montreal Canadiens.

For the first time during training camp, forward Joffrey Lupul took part in practice and was on a line with Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel. He spoke with the media following practice and said that he could play in a preseason game sometime this weekend.

Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf visited Phaneuf’s Friends in the Captain’s Corner during Monday’s preseason game at Air Canada Centre.

In the 4th year of the program, which benefits patients from SickKids Hospital, the suite has hosted over 1,500 patients.

Leafs Back At The ACC Tonight

The Maple Leafs return to Air Canada Centre to close out the back-to-back tonight against the Flyers (7pm, Sportsnet, Sportsnet FAN590).

Preseason Action Begins Tonight!

The Maple Leafs play the first of eight preseason games tonight in London, Ontario against the Philadelphia Flyers (6pm, Leafs TV, TSN1050Radio).

The two teams will meet back in Toronto on Monday as the Leafs will play five games in seven days leading up to the regular season opener October 1st in Montreal. Here is the full Leafs preseason schedule

Philadelphia has released a list of players who made the trip for the two games in London and Toronto. Check out the list here.

Leafs Scrimmage Ahead Of First Preseason Game

After having two days of controlled scrimmages, the Leafs were split in two teams Saturday for a Blue & White scrimmage at MasterCard Centre. Team White came out victorious 6-3 in an up-tempo game that had quite a bit of intensity and pleased head coach Randy Carlyle.

The team White goals: Nazem Kadri, Mason Raymond, Jake Gardiner, Kevin Raine, Andrew Crescenzi and Jesse Blacker
The Team Blue goals: David Clarkson, Tyler Bozak, Morgan Rielly

Lupul, Orr Not On The Ice As Camp Begins

Joffrey Lupul was a journalist, model and international man about town this summer.

The Maple Leafs first group of players hit the ice for practice at 9am on Thursday but Joffrey Lupul and Colton Orr did not take part.

Orr with a leg bone bruise won’t skate for a week while Lupul has back spasms and is considered day to day.

Head coach Randy Carlyle spoke with the media following two on-ice sessions and said that Lupul suffered the injury on Tuesday and was held out as a precaution.

Rookie defenceman Matt Finn was also not on the ice as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury ...

Leafs Rookies Drop Tourney Finale

The Maple Leafs ended the 2013 rookie tournament in London, Ontario with a 6-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators. The Leafs ended the tournament with a 2-1-0 record.

Toronto jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead after goals from Stuart Percy and Matt Rupert. The Senators tied the game in the second and blew the game wide open with four third period goals. The contest also featured three fights which the Leafs were decisive winners.

The Leafs didn’t dress Morgan Rielly, Matt Finn, Same Carrick and Carter Verhaeghe.

Rookie Tourney Ends Tonight

The Maple Leafs play their third and final game of the 2013 rookie tournament tonight in London against Ottawa (7pm Rogers TV). The two teams enter the game with 2-0-0 records.

It is expected that 2013 sixth round draft pick Antoine Bibeau will get the start in net tonight for the Leafs.  The status of Matt Finn will be determined after the morning skate as the blueliner left Saturday’s game with a shoulder stinger.

Leafs Second Straight Shootout Win

The Maple Leafs remained perfect at the 2013 rookie tournament thanks to another 4-3 shootout win this time over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brad Ross scored the shootout winner as the Leafs will now face the Ottawa Senators on Sunday at 7pm to close out the three-game tournament. Both teams enter the game with perfect 2-0-0 records.

Clarkson & Phaneuf At NHL Media Tour

Maple Leafs David Clarkson and Dion Phaneuf were at the NHL media tour in New Jersey and New York over the past two days.

Our Brooke Pashley was there and spoke with both players as they did a photo and video shoot on Thursday. Friday, they opened the New York Stock Exchange and visited The top of the Rock.

Rookies Face Pens Tonight

After Thursday’s opening win at the three-game rookie tournament, the Leafs will the play the second of three games tonight against Pittsburgh (7pm Rogers TV). The tournament wraps up Sunday against Ottawa.

It is expected that Christopher Gibson will get the start tonight with Antoine Bibeau getting the call on Sunday.

Biggs Notches Shootout Winner

Maple Leafs rookies opened the three-game rookie tournament with a 3-2 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday. Tyler Biggs was the fifth shooter and his goal on Mac Carruth was the winner when Garret Sparks stopped Byron Froese.

Josh Leivo scored a power play goal in the first period and Brad Ross scored on a great shot to  put the Leafs leading 2-0 after two periods.  The Blackhawks replied with two third period goals forcing the game to overtime which didn’t produce a winner.

Finn, Gauthier Score For Canada

Maple  Leafs prospects Matt Finn and Frederik Gauthier scored for Canada in their 7-3 win over Sweden in a World Junior exhibition game taking place in Lake Placid, New York.

It was the second straight game with a goal for Gauthier who blocked a shot late in the second period and left for the dressing room. He returned for the third where his goal early in the frame restored Canada’s two-goal lead.

World Junior coach Brent Sutter was asked about Gauthier being able to return after blocking the shot.

Serving Up Blizzards At DQ

David Clarkson took part in Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day on Thursday as he served Blizzard Treats at a store in Toronto.

The 11th annual Miracle Treat Day is happening at locations across Canada. During the one-day fundraiser, 100 per cent of the proceeds from every Blizzard Treat sold will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network.

The below vid is a wrap up of Clarkson’s day at Dairy Queen.

This was the first time he was behind the counter at Dairy Queen but it was all worth it.

Gauthier Scores For Canada

Three Maple Leafs prospects were in the lineup as Canada defeated Finland 5-3 in the first game of a World Junior exhibition series that is taking place in Lake Placid, NY over the next four days.

2013 first round draft pick Frederik Gauthier scored in the first period to give Canada a 2-1 lead after they fell behind just 51 seconds into the game.

London Knights forward Ryan Rupert recorded an assist on Canada’s fourth goal of the game in the third period while fellow 2012 draft pick Matt Finn was held scoreless.
