The first big event of All-Star weekend took place on Saturday the Skills Competition.

Prior to the competition starting, I was able to walk around and catch some cool photos including this one of two Leafs fans posing with Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel masks that were handed out to fans.

Look at the neat ice sculpture of the 2012 NHL All-Star logo that is outside the Scotiabank Place.

Media Day Madness

The final All-Star event on Friday was the media day which had the players and coaches on podiums fielding questions from all the reporters. It was fascinating to see the players in that environment being asked about concussions, the future of the game and more.

I took a video which you could see below of what the media day set up looked like.

It was pretty hard to get near many of the players when the interviews first started but I snapped a nice shot of Phil Kessel here.

After Dion Phaneuf, Kessel and Joffrey ...

Friday morning was a day for me to check out the NHL All-Star Fan Fair that was taking place at the Ottawa Convention Centre.

There was tons for fans to do including having your picture taken for a hockey card, interactive games to test your hardest shot, accuracy shooting, deflection ability and much more. Check out the video below of the Upper Deck hockey card exhibit  followed by a young fan trying the Sniper’s Fires game.

Ron Wilson didn’t say which defenceman will sit out with Gardiner’s return. In 37 games this season with the Leafs, Gardiner has recorded 10 assists while averaging 20:32 of ice-time.

PK Gets Extra Attention

jake-gardiner

The Leafs practiced Monday in preparation for Tuesday’s game against Carolina. There was lots of work done on the penalty killing as the Leafs have allowed six shorthanded goals in the last two games.

When he was asked about the penalty killing, head coach Ron Wilson discussed what he and his coaches are trying to instill in their players.

“Pressure, where our sticks are, it’s hard to work on shot blocking during practice for obvious reasons but constantly harping about being in shooting lanes,” he said.

One area that has hurt the Leafs ...
