Another Contribution From The Sault

BtKgq0xIQAE4STS

Sault Ste Marie’s contributions to hockey have been legendary.

Phil and Tony Esposito headline a long list of players who’ve made their mark over time. The management side has produced true builders of the game in Lou Nanne, Gene Ubriaco and Angelo Bumbacco.

The Leafs hiring of the Sault’s Kyle Dubas is an extension of that managerial lineage.

At age 28 the new assistant general manager maybe young but he’s been around the game his entire life.

His late grandfather Walter Dubas was head coach of the Greyhounds in the 1960’s.

Leafs Add Speed, Move Carefully

nylander_blog

In selecting William Nylander with the eighth overall pick in this weekend’s entry draft, the Leafs chose speed, skill and pedigree over size.

They made stops at the Philadelphia Museum of Art along with the Rocky Statue before making visits to LOVE Park, Geno’s Cheesesteaks, Betsy Ross house and the final stop on the journey was to Philadelphia Phillies batting practice.

Take a look at the video as we were on the journey for a few of the stops.

Eight Assumptions For The Leafs’ Eighth Pick In The Entry Draft

nonis600jun24

The NHL entry draft is Friday in Philadelphia. The Leafs hold the eighth choice. Perhaps you’ve heard.

With that in mind, let’s go into this with eight assumptions.

Assumption number one: Barrie Colts defenceman Aaron Ekblad isn’t a slam dunk for first overall.

Ekblad is not projected as the stand alone prospect in the draft and if he was, the Panthers would not consider moving the first pick. That they are open for business speaks to that fact. That’s why it seems highly unlikely the Leafs will airlift their young core in a ...
